Soho Trump’s WA Derby dream back on track

Soho Trump’s WA Derby dream back on track

CLASSY three-year-old Soho Trump’s WA Derby raid is back on.

Soho Trump

Owner-breeder Rob Watson confirmed he had secured a flight this week to get the classy colt from Melbourne to Perth for Friday week’s Group 1 feature at Gloucester Park.

Soho Trump did a power of work from a back row draw in a frantically run Victoria Derby when a tiring eighth last Saturday night.

“He’s come through it well and the flight became available, so we’re giving it a crack,” Watson said.

“Obviously, like so many of the big races, especially at Gloucester Park, his chances will come down to the barrier draw.

“He loves to be up front or leading in his races. He’s fast out and if he can lead, I think he’ll give this (WA) Derby a real shake.

“He’s shown how competitive with the best over east and Mick (Stanley, trainer-driver) and I think this is a strong crop of three-year-olds this year he’s been racing against.”

Soho Trump has raced just 17 times for eight wins and four placings.

Before his eighth in the Victoria Derby final, he ran a terrific second in his qualifying heat.

The colt’s biggest win so far came in the Group 2 Vicbred 2YO final at Melton on November 22, last year.
