CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Brokeandoutofgas had enough left in the tank to capture the Thursday evening mares feature at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park, while Jason Hughes and trainer Ashley Gamester teamed up for three victories on the 14-dash program.

Gilles Barrieau guided Brokeandoutofgas ($6.30) from last in the five-horse field to win the $6,350 Fillies and Mares Preferred in race 13. The Tammy Collings owned and trained mare followed the cover of Rosetown Mary (Driven by Corey MacPherson) before taking command in the stretch and holding off Windemere Saddy (Ken Murphy) by a neck in 1:56. Rosetown Mary finished third.

Badgirl Bridgette supplied the early speed through fractions of 27.3, 57 and 1:27 before the closers took over. Brokeandoutofgas, a five-year-old daughter of Arthur Blue Chip, is also bred by Collings of Hazel Brook.

Fight Song ($2.20) headlined the Hughes-Gamester triple with a 1:56 victory in the $6,050 Open Trot in race 7. The seven-year-old Kadabra gelding took command from West River Jet and led through splits of 28.1, 57 and 1:27 before finishing a length and a half clear. West River Jet (Kenny Arsenault) was second with Rina Labelle (Marc Campbell) third. Donald MacRae of Vernon Bridge owns Fight Song.

Hughes and Gamester also scored with MacRae’s Calamity Hour ($7.20), who led throughout race 5 to win by a length in 1:57.

Serenity Now ($3.10) completed their triple with a nose decision over Bayonetta (Marc Campbell) in race 8. Owned by Kurt Hughes of Alexandra, the three-year-old Sportswriter filly closed in 28.2 to stop the clock in 1:56. Woodmere Kennedie (Landon Campbell) rounded out the triactor.

Ken Murphy also enjoyed a three-win evening, including the fastest mile of the program with Ea Money Maker ($6.10) in race 11. The Saul Lanigan trainee rallied with a 27.2 final quarter to win the $5,200 event in 1:54.4. Lanigan of Cambridge co-owns the three-year-old Sweet Lou filly with Chris Farrell of Charlottetown.

Murphy’s other victories came with Camco Laraido ($8.70) in 2:00.3 for trainer Mario Macri and owner Leah Ann Moyer of Summerside, and Youre So Sweet ($6.40) in the 1:57.1 finale for trainer Mike Ramsay. Max Webster Stable of Inverness, N.S., and Ryan McLaughlin of Cornwall own Youre So Sweet.

Myles Heffernan Jr. recorded a training and driving double. His own Woodmere Cheetah ($19.40) opened the card with a 2:02 victory, while Lorne Valley Liv ($59.20) supplied the night’s biggest upset in race 9. The Barry MacLeod of Cardigan owned and bred mare won by half a length in 1:57.4.
