Stonewall Stud hoping for two cups

By Harnesslink ·

Steve and Amanda Telfer will be targeting both the Waimate and Tuapeka Cups tomorrow as they spread their team far and wide.

Iron Brigade (Art Major) will start off 30 metres in the $20,000 Waimate Cup at the Phar Lap Raceway in Timaru.

The nine win gelding will be handled by Tim Williams.

“He was super last start off 35 metres on the grass. He’s a round tubby thing at the moment and he’s building on fitness. I think he would have improved on that last run,” Amanda said.

Stonewall has two other runners at the Waimate meeting – Ebony Arden and King Command.

Ebony Arden (Bettor’s Delight) starts in the junior drivers race and will be driven by Nikita Burton.

“If Nikita can get her to step, she’ll go quite well in that race. She’s a funny type of mare and at home Nikita gets on really well with her. She’s been standing her up at home (standing start practices) and getting used to her. One off the 10 metres isn’t ideal but if we can step, we should be in it.”

Kings Command (Always B Miki) was a brave fifth to the talented Captain Wolf at his last start at Addington.

“He’s a nice three year old but the draw’s probably not good for him. He’s a progressive type and his runs have been good. As long as he can get a little bit of luck in running, he’ll be there.”

Further south at the Tuapeka meeting at Ascot Park the Telfers have two runners – Semba (Captaintreacherous) and BB King (American Ideal). Both will be handled by Terry Chmiel.

Semba runs from the 10 metre mark in the $15,000 Tuapeka Cup.

“He’s been honest and consistent in his last few runs and we’ve been really happy with him. We decided to separate a couple of the horses and to give Terry the trip south. I think he’ll be right in that race with his stand start manners.”

Three year old BB King races in the last race at Ascot Park and draws barrier four.

“We’ve got so many in that grade and he would have had to race Franco Lennon up here. We were hoping for an easier target, it probably isn’t that easy. But he’ll handle himself well.”
