Rockinwithattitude runs them ragged in Macarthur Mile

Speedy Victorian mare Rockinwithattitude (Aldebaran Eagle) showed a welcome return to form with a dazzling all the way performance to take out the $100,000 Group 1 Slingsby Holdings Macarthur Mile for trotting mares at Menangle on Saturday evening.

Trainer David Miles deserves credit as in previous starts she had her colours lowered by Jilliby Ballerini yet he obviously considered Rockinwithattitude to have a serious prospect by bringing her to Menangle.

However on the strength of her Group 1 success the week before at Melton Jilliby Ballerini was sent out a hot favourite. Although she commenced quickly Jilliby Ballerini was beaten early by Rockinwithattitude who showed dazzling speed to clearly lead.

ROCKINWITHATTITUDE 2 MAY REPLAY

Glen Craven on Jilliby Ballerini decided to take a trail behind Rockinwithattitude while her stablemate Jilliby Dreamlover settled in third placing.

The field was strung out and it was left to Aldeabaran Acrux work up on the outside.

Jilliby Ballerini was stalking Rockinwithattitude and it looked as if she was going to race right past Rockinwithattitude as they straightened.

But Miles urged Rockinwithattitude and she simply bounded clear with a final quarter of 27.7 seconds to run away from Jilliby Dreamlover who battled on for second while Aldebaran Acrux edged out Jilliby Dreamlover for third.

Rockinwithattitude rated 1.52.1 for the mile.

In her juvenile days Rockinwithattitude swept all before her winning both the New South Wales and Queensland Trotters Derbies and Oaks a rare feat indeed.

Then in July 2024 she won the Group 1 Great Square at Albion Park. She had a run of outs but her Macarthur Mile shows that she is right back to her best.

David Miles was indeed a happy man after the event.

She’s very fast off the arm and as I said out there her tactical speed is what gets her these wins. Its her sixth Group 1, first at Open level. She’s won Group 1s at two, three and four and six now. She didn’t race as a five year old. She’s been a war horse, she’s been everywhere. But we love her.

She’s been knocking on the door, she’s got to chase Keayang Zahara and were probably lucky susan Is is her Name is not here tonight.

But Ballerini is no pushover, she’s been absolutely fantastic, she got her first Group 1 win last week so it’s a great crop of trotters, especially mares. All the mares are to the fore, they’re stronger than the boys. There’s a couple of Sydney owners here, there’s about fifteen in the syndicate altogether, a few of them have flown up. Its been an awesome night, a great feeling.

Any Group 1 win is a great win. I’ll be there at the Inter Dominion (in Brisbane in July) with Rockinwithattitude.
