Captains Mistress in ruthless form as she coasts to Queen Elizabeth Mile win

Captains Mistress in ruthless form

By Harnesslink ·

Wonder mare Captains Mistress (Captaintreacherous) maintained her title as Australia’s top harness racing mare with an effortless speed display to take out the $200,000 Group 1 Prydes Easifeed Queen Elizabeth II mile for pacing mares at Menangle on Saturday evening.

Her only defeat this preparation was a somewhat unlucky fifth in the Miracle Mile so when she drew two in the coveted classic it really did look a case of her being well night unbeatable.

And that’s how it turned out. Captains Mistress had no trouble holding the early lead with her main rival Eye Keep Smiling taking a trail behind Tokyo Rose who went up to race outside the leader.

CAPTAINS MISTRESS 2 MAY REPLAY

Once in front driver Cameron Hart gave her a breather and she ran her second  quarter in 29.3 seconds. Luke McCarthy knew that he had to make an earlier run with Eye Keep Smiling as she attempted to make up some ground.

But Captains Mistress merely slipped into second gear with her final quarters in 26.9 sand 26.4 seconds and she left the field struggling to keep up. In the end Captains Mistress had just under 13 metres to spare over the fast finishing Steno who was runner up for the second time in this event with Victorian Wicked Confession finishing on well for third.

Overall Captains Mistress ran 1.49.7 for the mile journey. Although clearly beaten both Steno and Wicked Confession’s performances were full of merit, its just that currently there doesn’t seem to be any mare that can match it with Captains Mistress.

Cameron Hart was steadfast in is praise for Captains Mistress.

She’s just a brilliant mare. The sectionals that she puts up on the back end of these big miles is just incredible and it gives me a great feeling every time. It’s like strapping yourself onto a rocket and just hang on.

She’s pretty cool to drive and definitely don’t take it for granted and I’m just glad I’m partnering her at the races. It’s very special Mick (Boots the owner) does great things for the industry, spreads his horses around amongst the participants and it’s great to see him get such a quality mare like this. I know he gets a big thrill out of watching her race. He is here tonight which is great. Jason (Grimson) and I have been lucky to win some great races together. It (the partnership) never gets old its awesome just makes it more exciting when you’ve got one out of a box like this girl. Hopefully going forward up to Brisbane she can have more success.

This night is right up with them for sure. As I said this mare Captains Mistress is pretty special and Arrhythmia has been great for my career I’ve been able to get a VicBred Classic and a Breeders Crown with her and its my first Oaks win tonight which has been an unlucky race in the past so its been great to tick that one off with such a quality filly as well.
