Promising filly She’s A Delancy (Captain Crunch) showed great courage in a strong display to lead all the way in the time honoured $30,000 Group 3 Fran Fitzpatrick Cheryl McDowell Memorial Pink Bonnet Mile at Menangle on Saturday evening.

The final group event of the harness racing program saw a furious early battle with favourite She’s A Delaney crossing Tolhurst Iris only to be tackled and eyeballed by Outta The Ordinary. The two went hard early with a first quarter of 27.8 seconds as Anthony Frisby tried to give She’s A Delaney a breather.

Ferocious Lover secured a one out and one back trail while the well supported Candy Girl Marley was smothered back on the rails in the eight horse field.

SHES A DELANEY 2 MAY REPLAY

Despite not being given much respite in the lead She’s A Delaney bounded clear on straightening to leave her rivals standing. It was left to first starter Decoupage to run on gamely for second with Wallaby Way coming from the rear of the field to finish third.

It was Anthony Frisby’s 50th success as a trainer and well deserved. The filly is raced by the Arko Racing Syndicate.  The Bathurst filly has now won three of her six starts.

She’s A Delaney’s dam No Escape is also the dam of the capable three year old Frizza a winner of three races for Anthony Frisby. No Escape also has a weanling colt by Warrawee Needy.

There was a lot to like about the way Decoupage was rattling home for second while Wallaby Way came from last to run a credible third.

Anthony Frisby commented on the filly’s win after the race.

We were lucky enough to get the front pretty easy. I was a little bit worried, we got attacked a bit but we ended up getting a nice easy third quarter and she made it home nice so it worked out quite well.

We’re unsure about her we’ll take it day by day with her. She’s done a good job so far. So we’ll just talk to the owners and reevaluate her and see how she pulls up. But she’s quite bright her at the minute. So unsure but hopefully can do some bigger races and go on from there. It’s always good to win on a normal night let alone a big night and its good they performed well. And yes it’s a good thrill.
