Race of the week: Big finish by a massive upsetter
This week’s Race of the Week comes from Melton, where Dynamite Dan produced a sensational finishing burst to claim the $150,000 Group 1 Victoria Pacers Derby.
With the favourites battling for supremacy over a testing 2760 metres, the race developed into a genuine staying contest. Brooklyn Dan led early, but Palladium applied the pressure mid-race, setting things up perfectly for the swoopers.
Driver James Herbertson bided his time before unleashing Dynamite Dan down the outside, storming past his more fancied stablemates to deliver another Group 1 triumph for trainer Emma Stewart.
Even part-owner Danny Zavitsanos could scarcely believe what he was witnessing, having expected Brooklyn Dan to provide his best chance of victory.
DYNAMITE DAN 17 OCT REPLAY
It was a classic Derby battle, complete with mid-race moves, tiring leaders and a spectacular finish — a worthy choice for our Race of the Week!
