Plainville, MA — A pair of $20,000 races – one on the pace and one on the trot – took top billing at Plainridge Park on Friday (Oct. 23) afternoon and both harness racing winners threw big miles.

Pembroke Southie

First was the upper-level conditioned pace for fillies and mares where Pembroke Southie posted a moderate upset.

Pembroke Southie (Kyle Swift) got away fifth as One More Bet (Matty Athearn) parked Joan’srisingstar N (Jay Randall) to the quarter in :26.1. Joan’srisingstar N crossed over in front of the stands and then reached the half in :54 flat. At that point, Beantown Deuce (Mitchell Cushing) was leading an outer flow and brought Mrs. Cheese (Kevin Switzer Jr.) and Pembroke Southie with her. Beantown Deuce took the lead at the 1:22.2 three-quarters, leaving Mrs. Cheese and Pembroke Southie still advancing in the breeze around the last turn. Then just before entering the stretch, Pembroke Southie went three-wide around Mrs. Cheese and blew by everybody down the lane to win by 1-¾ lengths in 1:50.3.

PEMBROOKE SOUTHIE REPLAY

It was the fifth win of the year for Pembroke Southie ($14.40), who is owned by Glenn Goller and Stephen Demeter and trained by Jaymes McCassey.

Then later in the upper-level conditioned trot, Unevergonnagethis went gate to wire to score his third win in his last four starts.

Unevergonnagethis (Bruce Ranger) left from post four and trotted heartily on the point through quarters of :28.1, :57.2 and 1:25.3, while Just Roxy (Matty Athearn) sat in the pocket for the trip. With the rest of the field about three lengths behind, Unevergonnagethis and Just Roxy fled the scene around the last turn. When they straightened for home, Just Roxy made a bid towards the leader, but Unevergonnagethis just kept pulling away and won by 2-½ lengths in 1:54.

UNEVERGONNAGETHIS REPLAY

Unevergonnagethis ($5.20) is owned by Pollock Racing and trained by Enrico Robinson.

Matty Athearn had three driving wins while Gretchen Athearn scored two training wins.

Racing will resume at Plainridge Park on Monday (Oct. 26) at 2 p.m. and there will be a $17,847 carryover in the Wicked Hi-5 pentafecta wager in the sixth race.
