New Zealand Analyst – 3YO race previews for Auckland 13th March

The Group 2 features for the three-year-olds take centre stage at Alexandra Park on Friday night with the Alabar Classic for the colts and geldings followed by the Caduceus Club Ladyship Stakes for the fillies.

The colts and geldings race looks to revolve around a clear standout, while the fillies event shapes as a far more tactical affair with several runners capable of winning if the tempo and race shape fall their way.

Here’s how the two Group races look to unfold.

Race 4 – Alabar 3YO Classic (Group 2)

2200m – Mobile

This race looks to centre around the progressive Jumal (6) who made a big impression when resuming with victory last start. He showed toughness to reel in The Lazarus Effect fresh-up and with that run under his belt he should strip fitter again. The draw is workable and if he can work forward at the right time he looks the horse they all have to beat.

Allamericanplayer (3) has returned in excellent order this campaign and gets a perfect draw to be prominent throughout. His recent efforts have been strong and he profiles as the runner most likely to test the favourite if the race becomes tactical.

Freeze Frame (4) could not have been much more unlucky when resuming, missing by the narrowest of margins after a strong performance. With that run under his belt and a good draw again, he looks capable of playing a major role with the right trip.

Cyclone Rebel (9) looks a runner who could spice up the exotics after finishing off well last start despite covering extra ground.

Selections:
Jumal (6)
Allamericanplayer (3)
Freeze Frame (4)
Cyclone Rebel (9)

Race 5 – Caduceus Club Ladyship Stakes (Group 2)

2200m – Mobile

The fillies feature appears far more open on paper and several runners bring strong recent performances into the race.

All Of Me (3) looks well placed to turn the tables after finishing second to Alecto last week. She lost no admirers with that performance and from a handy draw should enjoy a far smoother trip. If she holds a forward position throughout she looks capable of going one better.

Alecto (9) produced a sharp finishing burst to defeat All Of Me last start and clearly has the talent to repeat the effort. The second-row draw means she will require the right breaks in the straight, but if the gaps appear she will be charging late.

Time For Change (1) resumes from the ace draw after impressing at the workouts and clearly has plenty of ability. With the benefit of the inside barrier she should receive every opportunity to be competitive.

Cool For Cats (11) caught the eye when resuming with a strong performance at Addington. The draw makes the task difficult, but with genuine tempo she could be hitting the line strongly.

Queen Lizzy (7) has been racing well and cannot be overlooked, although the wide barrier means she will require some luck early.

Selections:
All Of Me (3)
Alecto (9)
Time For Change (1)
Cool For Cats (11)
