By Nicholas Oakes ·

SUMMERSIDE, PE – Miki Shan N (Always B Miki) kept his undefeated Atlantic Canadian record intact and turned back a major threat in the Canada Day harness racing  feature Wednesday afternoon at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.

The Prince County oval hosted a 13-dash program with a special spotlight on New Start Standardbreds Maritimes, an adoption and aftercare program dedicated to giving retired Standardbreds a safe and meaningful life after racing.

In the $6,250 Preferred 2 pace, Miki Shan N ($2.60) delivered as the heavy favourite for driver Corey MacPherson and trainer Chris Mackay, cutting the mile and sprinting home in 27 seconds to win in 1:54.2.

MIKI SHAN N REPLAY

The New Zealand-bred son of Always B Miki is the defending Gold Cup and Saucer and Governor’s Plate champion and has never tasted defeat in Atlantic Canada. Owned by Kap Singh Racing Stable of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., Stephen Klunowski of North York, Ont., Earl Hill Jr. of Ohsweken, Ont., and Donald G. MacRae of Vernon Bridge, P.E.I., Miki Shan N took command early and held firm through fractions of 28.3, 58.4 and 1:27.2.

Freemans Legacy closed for second with Jaycob Sweet aboard while millionaire newcomer Hellabalou finished third for trainer-driver Paul Langille.

MacKay and MacPherson also won with Camluck Lady ($6.90) in 1:58.1 in race 2.

Langille was the most frequent visitor to the winner’s circle on the day with four driving wins, as he won the Canada Day Pace with his own Couldhavebeenalady ($8.80), who converted a two-hole trip into a 1:58.3 victory.

Langille also won with a pair of Wayne Watson trainees in Wednesdays Child ($2.50) in race 8 in 1:56.2 and More Than A Woman ($9.40) in race 9 in 1:54. Brookdale Johnny ($3.60) captured the $5,000 sixth race pace in 1:55 for Langille and trainer Phil Sizer.

Brady Sweet had a triple on the afternoon winning with Starshipzodiac ($5.00) taking race 1 in 1:56.4 for trainer Robert Williams, Run For The Money ($10.90) rallied to win race 4 in 1:59 from his own barn and Tobins April Fool ($3.30) dominated race 10 in 1:58.2 for trainer Jeffery Wallace.

Total handle for the Canada Day card was $139,360.

Live racing continues Thursday evening at 6 P.M. at Red Shores Charlottetown. For more go to Redshores.ca. The Saturday cards in July have a new Post Time of 5 P.M.
