La Venture first winner for On A Streak
La Venture (On A Streak) enjoyed racing against her own sex tonight when she impressively cleared maiden ranks in the G3 Macca Lodge Sires’ Stake Two Year Old Fillies Classique at Addington.
Driver Sam Ottley eased her off the gate before she ventured around the field, took the top with a lap to run and went down to the line to win by two lengths from Dontyoufeelgood.
LA VENTURE REPLAY
“She’s just a wee darling this wee girl. She’s only made one mistake in her life and I blame myself for that night. I’m just stoked to get a race with just the fillies. She’s been footing it with the boys and doing a really good job. It just shows you that it’s a big change when you get back to your own sex. I’m so rapt for Michael and Alison. They’re a great couple doing a great job,” Ottley said.

Trained by Michael Purdon and his partner Alison Ward, the filly is raced by Michael’s mother Vicki Purdon, Trudy Roberts and Michael and Alison.

The win provided Cantab Hall stallion On A Streak with his first New Zealand winner and a Group Three win at that, for both his sire and trainers.
From limited numbers the Yabby Dam stallion has four other qualified unraced foals on the ground.
Michael bought La Venture for $25,000 at the 2025 NZB Standardbred Yearling Sales when she was presented by Laura Smith on behalf of her owner Yabby Dam Farms.
She’s the first foal out of the eight win Quaker Jet mare La Serena and La Venture’s second dam Kahu Del is well known to New Zealanders, having left good pacers Harnetts Creek and Cullen’s Creek. It’s also the family of Lyell Creek.
