New Zealand Analyst – YOUNG GUNS HEATS 3
The Young Guns series continues on Friday night
The Young Guns series continues on Friday night and while the colts and geldings heat looks relatively straightforward on paper, the fillies heat shapes as far more open with very little exposed form. A number of these youngsters come through strong trials, so early trial form, race positioning and a touch of luck could prove crucial.
Here’s how we see the two heats unfolding.
Race 6 – Breckon Farms Young Guns 2YO Colts & Geldings Heat 3
1700m – Mobile
This race appears more clear-cut on paper, with a few runners already showing genuine race ability.
Tour Party (1) was impressive when beating two rivals on debut and from the ace draw looks extremely hard to beat again. He showed professionalism that many juveniles lack and clearly has the motor to measure up in this series.
Coal Fire (9) remains unbeaten and looks the obvious danger. The second-row draw means he should land a soft trip behind the likely leader and if the gaps appear in the straight, he will be charging late.
We Will Rise Again (4) is the interesting runner on debut. His recent trial win was sharp, clocking slick sectionals, and he profiles as a horse with plenty of upside. With the right run he can definitely finish in the top three.
Bamm Bamm (8) has also impressed at trials but the wide draw makes life difficult. Expect him to be doing his best work late if the tempo is genuine.
Selections:
Tour Party (1)
Coal Fire (9)
We Will Rise Again (4)
Bamm Bamm (8)
Race 7 – Gallagher Insurance Young Guns 2YO Fillies Heat 3
1700m – Mobile
The fillies heat looks far less exposed, with several runners making their debuts and only limited race form to work with. Trial performances will be a key guide here.
Supermodelle (4) has trialed nicely and has the pedigree to suggest she’ll be competitive at this level. In a race lacking clear standouts she looks a logical inclusion.
Field Of Gold (5) comes from a respected stable and possesses early gate speed. If she can push forward and land handy early, she has genuine winning claims.
Mhai Jackie Do (10) caught the eye winning a recent trial where she defeated several of these rivals with a strong late burst. From the second row she’ll need luck, but the ability is there.
Missy Lincoln (2) maps to enjoy a soft trip from the inside draw and showed good late speed in a recent trial. She looks capable of finishing in the money.
Selections:
Supermodelle (4)
Field Of Gold (5)
Mhai Jackie Do (10)
Missy Lincoln (2)
