Down Under Winners from North America

Louie’s Girl, who was bred in New Zealand’s Southland District by Gavin Forbes, made a one-act affair of the $100,000 Betsy Ross Mares’ Invitational Pace at Harrah’s Philadelphia on Super Sunday (May 24).

After settling down third, the daughter of the Live Or Die horse Lord Forbes assumed control before the half-way point. She reeled off a 54 seconds second half to win as she liked by two lengths in a new lifetime mark of 1:48.8, only 0.4 outside the race record.

Louie’s Girl has won 19 of her 38 starts.

LOUIES GIRL N REPLAY

Iam The Captain, a NSW bred son of Captaintreacherous, took full advantage of a sweet trip to overpower his rivals in the $11,000 feature at Oak Grove in 1:53.8 on Monday (May 18). It was the gelding’s second success this season.

The former Victorian mare Sweetnikkilou made her North American debut a winning one when she finished strongly after enjoying a pocket trip in a $13,000 handicap at Harrah’s Philadelphia on Friday (May 22).

Meanwhile, the NZ bred mare Let’s N Joy extended her record on Canada to 10 wins from 13 starts when she won the $40,000 Fillies and Mares’ Open in 1:52.2 at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday (May 23). She has banked $126,565 so far this year.
