Captains Mistress in another awesome speed display

Australia’s leading mare Captains Mistress (Captaintreacherous) served notice that she will be right at her top in her forthcoming Queensland harness racing trip with a powerhouse display of front running to win the Listed JD Watts Memorial Free For All at Menangle on Saturday night.

Drawn the coveted pole position Captains Mistress was not expected to be troubled and driver Cameron Hart ensured that the star mare was able to hold the lead.

Stablemate Hi Manameisjeff immediately took the trail behind Captains Mistress with noted speedster Ripp settling in third. In fact the field settled down in single file over the mile trip.

Don Hugo who was resuming from a spell was easy in the betting and the view was that there was no way that he would be able to find the lead. Driver Luke McCarthy settled back on the rails mid field.

CAPTAINS MISTRESS 6 JUNE REPLAY

After Captains Mistress ran a quick first quarter in 27.1 seconds she had a breather with a comfortable 29.5 seconds second quarter. Don Hugo eased off the rails along the back straight but it was clear that on this occasion he would not trouble Captains Mistress. After running 27.9 seconds for the third quarter, Captains Mistress gave a scintillating display of 25.6 seconds for the final quarter as she held off a late challenge from a determined Hi Manameisjeff by just over a metre with Ripp a further five metres away in third.

Once in flight Captains Mistress sprints so quickly that its almost impossible for her rivals to gather her in. Obviously her biggest test is yet to come when she races in the Group 1 Rising Sun against Marketplace and the local challengers Fate Awaits Fire and Passion and Fernco Nel amongst others looking to take their place in the field.

Trainer Jason Grimson is even contemplating running Captains Mistress in the Inter Dominion if she wins the Rising Sun. That would surely be her most formidable assignment but she’s swept all before under Grimson and deserves a chance amongst the very best if Grimson and owner Mick Boots accept the challenge.
