Captains Knock breaks the 1.50 again

Captains Knock breaks the 1.50 again

Noted speedster Captains Knock (Captaintreacherous) gave yet another awesome speed display taking out the Ule Hoof Oil Free For All at Menangle on Saturday night.

Drawn on the outside of the front row, Captains Knock was up against another brilliant speedster in Ripp who from the middle was able to hold the lead. Driver Jason Grimson despite the wide draw on Captains Knock pressed on and he worked to the front running his first quarter in 25.8 seconds.

Grimson attempted to steady the pace and the second quarter was a more leisurely 29.2 seconds. It was obvious that the following pack would struggle to keep up and the luckless Ubetcha Tigerpie was left without cover trying to chase.

Captains Knock simply upped the tempo with a third quarter in 27.9 seconds with Ripp sticking with him. It seemed as if Captains Knock had something to spare as he ran a final quarter in 26.5 seconds and an overall time of 1.49.5.

Ripp battled on to hold second ahead of Captain Bellasario who was a fair way back in third.

Just two weeks ago, Captains Knock ran 1.48.7 winning at Albion Park and trainer Jason Grimson has a number of options for Captains Knock to tackle the Country Cups in either New South Wales or Victoria.

Despite his dazzling speed, Captains Knock is a proven stayer as shown by his efforts in last season’s New South Wales Country Cups carnival where he won longer races at Wagga, Newcastle, Bathurst and Albury. That makes him an ideal proposition for whatever he may contest in the future.
