Wheels On Fire goes all the way

By Harnesslink ·

Wheels On Fire (Somebeachsomewhere) inched closer to seven digits in earnings with this third win in his past four harness racing outings in the $30,000 Preferred-2 at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday (Nov. 19).

Wheels On Fire wins another Preferred-level race

Doug McNair declined to tuck the gelding into the pocket and pushed him by Century Heineken (Bob McClure) to earn the top spot. He completed the first quarter in :28.2 and kept the pedal down through middle splits of :55.4 and 1:23.3.

Codename Cigar Box (Travis Cullen) went on the attack as they entered the homeward turn and hounded the leader down the lane, but Wheels On Fire proved best as he sprinted to the finish in 1:51.2.

Century Heineken advanced late at the pylons for second. Codename Cigar Box dropped back to third.

WHEELS ON FIRE REPLAY

Wheels On Fire has now won three of his past four starts at the Preferred level, and four of his past six. His overall record is 44 wins in 130 tries and a bankroll of $956,338. Richard Moreau trains the seven-year-old for Brad Grant of Milton.

Two Ontario-sired Harvest Series finals – for three-year-old colts and geldings of each gait – also went to post on the card. Hp Maestro (Il Sogno Dream, Filion) captured the $46,300 trotting contest for trainer Jean Tourigny and Owner Claude Hamel. First- and second-favourites Angels Express (Louis-Philippe Roy) and Stable Genius (McClure) both made breaks. Stone Carver (Bettors Delight, James MacDonald) beat his rivals in 1:53.3 in the $51,100 pacing divison. Tony Beaton trains the gelding for Robert Bridges.

Canadian double Olympic gold medallist Donovan Bailey presented the Harvest Series trophy to the connections of Hp Maestro.

Harvest Series action continues on the upcoming Monday, Nov. 21 card at Woodbine Mohawk Park. The three-year-old trotting fillies will battle in their $45,700 final.
