Unbeaten Woodmere pair eye P.E.I. Colt Stakes success

SUMMERSIDE, PE – Woodmere Dougal and Woodmere Rock It will seek to remain perfect during Thursday evening racing in a pair of $17,300 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Gold harness racing divisions for two-year-old pacing colts at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.

Governor’s Plate Week racing continues at 6 P.M., at the Prince County Track with 14 dashes on tap.

Woodmere Dougal gets top billing in the first P.E.I. Colt Stakes Gold division in race 7 with Corey MacPherson handling the lines of his trainee for owners Peter Smith and Gerald Morrissey. The son of Bet The Moon stormed home to win his Atlantic Sires Stakes division on July 5 in his career debut in 1:56.4 at the Truro Raceway. The colt now has post 3 in his $17,300 Gold division. His rivals include Malicious Benny (To be driven by Paul Langille) from post 5 and post 2 starter Much More Malice (Gilles Barrieau).

The second $17,300 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Gold division lines up in race 11 with Woodmere Rock It favoured from the rail. MacPherson drives the Tobago Cays colt for trainer Jamie Smith and owner The Stable Woodmererock It Group of Guelph, Ont. Woodmere Rock It won his career debut in 1:56.4 on June 27 then romped in his Atlantic Sires Stakes bout on July 5 in 1:56 flat to keep him 2-for-2 in his career. Other two-year-old pacing colts in the field include Bowser (Jason Hughes) from post 4 and Woodmere Fergus (Barrieau) with post 5.

The program also has $8,650 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Grassroots divisions for two-year-old pacing colts in races 1, 3, 4, 5, 10, 12 and 14.

In overnight competition, Race 2 is the Isabelle & Ivan Cameron Memorial with Thepotionismotion (Adam Merner) the favourite with post 5.

You Already Have (Barrieau) is favoured in the Bob MacInnis Memorial in race 6 as she starts from post 5.
