The Rev cruises to victory

CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The Rev and a motionless Gilles Barrieau disposed of all comers in the Sunday afternoon preferred harness racing pace at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Leaving sharply from post 4, The Rev struck the front in the $2,900 preferred pace for trainer-driver Barrieau and walked through splits of 28.2, 58 and 1:27.2 before opening up by three-lengths in the stretch to win in 1:55.3. Owned by Jeff Skinner of Hammonds Plains, N.S., it was win number 43 of The Rev’s career. Screen Test (Driven by Corey MacPherson) was second while Revenant (Adam Merner) was third.

Marc Campbell was the hot driver of the day again with five trips to the winner’s circle. The O’Brien award winning horseman won with Spack Jarrow in race 2 in a 1:59.4 score over a track rated two-seconds off for trainer Raymond White. Filly Forty Seven was a winner in the $2,750 fillies and mares Open pace in 1:58.3 in race 6 followed by a race 10 victory with Shadow Of A Daut in 1:59.4 from the Earl Watts barn. Clever Thing scored a six-length romp in race 11 stopping the clock in 1:58.2 for trainer Kyle Wilkie. Campbell’s final score was in the afternoon finale as Paris Beau was a 1:59.3 victor for conditioner Doug Beckwith.

Racing resumes Saturday with the annual Horseperson’s Day presented by the Prince Edward Island Standardbred Horse Owners Association. The afternoon card features the Paul MacDonald memorial driving championship. Post time is 12:30pm.
