Think of The Insider as a boutique extension of HarnessLink. Each edition will highlight key stories, emerging trends, and the moments that matter most across the global racing scene. We’ll also share exclusive perspectives, behind-the-scenes context, and thoughtful analysis that goes beyond the headline.

Our goal is simple: to look at the people who make harness racing what it is – our own participants, our own stories, and the moments that connect the sport from the inside.

Club Menangle – TAB Carnival of Miracles

The 2026 edition of the Garrards Miracle Mile could go down as the greatest race ever assembled. The coming together of the best of the best this year sees the finest of Australia and New Zealand doing battle over the Menangle mile.
The Miracle Mile dates back to the 1960s when Robin Dundee won the first edition of the great race in 1967. The race has seen the birth of harness racing legends: Hondo Grattan, Paleface Adios, Westburn Grant, King of Swing, just to name a few. This year, the race is wide open with twenty horses in real contention to take out the million-dollar event.

This week there are two outstanding qualifying sprints, which feature four pacers who have earned more than a million dollars in their careers. Eighteen of this week’s contenders have broken the 1.50 barrier. That’s how competitive this year’s lineup is. Only seven horses will earn the right to contest the Miracle Mile on Saturday 14 March. These seven will join the eleven-year-old pacer, Bulletproof Boy who qualified last week with a win in the Newcastle Mile. It would be quite the racing romance story if an eleven-year-old could take out harness racing’s best race. Whichever seven horses earn selection this week, the 2026 Miracle Mile has the potential to be the greatest race ever staged in Australia.
