Race of the week - Stunning finish from Lazarus gelding wins Carousel

Just when Palladium looked to have the Carousel Pacers Final safely in his keeping, Nymbal produced a devastating late burst to snatch victory at Menangle on Saturday night.

The New Zealand-bred son of Lazarus found himself hopelessly boxed in four back on the pegs as favourite Palladium took control and reeled off a blistering 26.9-second third quarter.

With nowhere to go approaching the home turn, driver Robert Morris had to wait patiently while Palladium appeared to have the race at his mercy.

But when a gap finally opened along the inside, Nymbal exploded through, quickly overhauling the favourite and racing clear for an impressive victory.

NYMBAL 19 SEP REPLAY

It was another outstanding performance from the Redcliffe Derby winner, who showed a remarkable turn of foot to turn an apparently hopeless position into a comfortable win.
