Race Of The Week: 2yo colt produces a stunning late burst

This week’s Race of the Week comes from Pocono Downs, where two-year-old pacer History (Downbytheseaside) produced a breathtaking finishing burst to break his maiden in 1:52.1.

The Downbytheseaside colt looked to have plenty of work ahead of him approaching the final turn. Driven by Jack Pelling for his father, trainer Brett Pelling, History was sixth at the three-quarter pole, four lengths from the leader and still locked away on the inside.

Once Pelling found clear air, however, the race changed quickly.

History was angled wide for his challenge and unleashed a devastating sprint, powering home in :27.2 to sweep past his rivals and score by 1½ lengths.

HISTORY REPLAY

It was an impressive display from the Diamond Creek Racing-owned youngster, who brought plenty of pedigree into his freshman campaign.

By Downbytheseaside out of Balance, History is from a family that includes millionaire and two-time O’Brien Award winner L A Delight.
