Race Of The Week 27th August 2026

This week’s Race of the Week goes to Justaweesip, who produced a brilliant finishing burst to capture the Southern Surge Final at Winton on Monday.

The Rock N Roll Heaven filly looked to have plenty against her after landing five back on the markers from her second-row draw, leaving trainer-driver Peter Hunter with plenty of traffic to negotiate approaching the home turn.

But a strong tempo up front played into her hands.

Hunter managed to work Justaweesip away from the inside before the turn and, once he found clear air in the straight, the response was immediate.

She exploded out of the pack, charging home to grab victory in the fastest winning time of the seven Southern Surge Finals on the programme.

JUSTAWEESIP REPLAY

It continued an outstanding return to racing for Justaweesip, who had already demolished her rivals in her heat at Ascot Park.

The three-year-old had shown her ability earlier in the season when finishing fifth in the Group One Southern Oaks despite suffering a costly check at the 400m.
