Race Of The Week 13th August 2026

This week’s Race of the Week comes from The Meadowlands, where Sweet Lovin Lou (Sweet Lou) produced a brilliant finishing burst to upset some of North America’s leading three-year-old pacers in the $310,750 Grade 2 Cane Pace.
With Tim Tetrick taking the drive for the injured Scott Zeron, Sweet Lovin Lou was restrained to the rear of the five-horse field as Meadowlands Pace winner Brandon Blvd, Odds On Mr Mamba and Gentleman’s Club all became involved in the early action.
Gentleman’s Club eventually found the front and took the field through the half in :54.1 before the pressure began to build around the final turn.
As Odds On Mr Mamba came away from the trail and Brandon Blvd launched wider, Tetrick was still sitting quietly at the back aboard Sweet Lovin Lou.
Then came the explosion.
Sweet Lovin Lou gathered momentum around the final bend before unleashing a powerful sprint down the Meadowlands stretch, sweeping past the favourites and wearing down Gentleman’s Club to score by three-quarters of a length.
SWEET LOVIN LOU REPLAY
The winning time of 1:47.3 was a new lifetime best and continued Sweet Lovin Lou’s emergence as a serious player among this season’s three-year-old pacers.
“I still felt pretty confident going into the last turn and this horse really flew through the stretch,” Tetrick said.
Sent out as one of the outsiders at $30.60, Sweet Lovin Lou showed that when the speed went on and the race opened up, he possessed the finishing speed to match it with the best.
For the Daniel Lagace-trained son of Sweet Lou, it was his fifth career victory and took his earnings beyond $460,000.
A patient drive, a perfectly timed move and a spectacular finishing burst made Sweet Lovin Lou’s Cane Pace upset our Race of the Week.
