Moosette goes back-to-back; six for Campbell

Moosette (Hes Watching) held on after taking over late to win her second straight Fillies and Mares Open at Fraser Downs on Thursday (Feb. 23) on another wet harness racing surface.
Brandon Campbell swung the mare out of fourth on the backside but was treading water as they headed around the final turn. Moosette finally collared leader Miss Itunes (Scott Knight) at the top of the lane and survived the charge of In High Cotton (Dave Hudon) for the victory in 1:54.2. In High Cotton was a neck behind in second. Century Mach (Kelly Hoerdt) finished third.
MOOSETTE REPLAY
Moosette’s win brought her career totals up to 23 wins and $171,878 in 67 tries. Jim Marino conditions the six-year-old for owner/breeder Shale Stables of Merritt.
The victory also was the third in a six-win haul for Campbell. The driver didn’t strike until the third race with Pick Up Stix (Mystician, 1:59.1) but won the last five in a row. He got home Western Summit (Vertical Horizon, 1:54.4), Moosette, Cause To Believe (Blue Burner, 1:58.4), Hotpieceoface (Big Jim, 1:55.3), and Jk Pure Gold (American Ideal, 1:55). The last win was a romp in the true meaning of the term – Jk Pure Gold won by 19-and-a-half lengths.
It was also a good night for Marino, who trained three of Campbell’s winners.
Fraser Downs continues racing on Friday, Feb. 24 at 7:00 p.m. PST.
