The gelding stormed away from post six and took the top spot for Brett MacDonald while rounding onto the backstretch. He trotted the first panel in :28.4, let Raisealittlehill (Anthony Haughan) go on the second turn, and retook command before the half in :58.2. Johnny Buckshot (Tyler Borth) was first-up to three-quarters in 1:27.2, but could only chase as Marvin Hagler kicked clear on the final turn. Johnny Buckshot cut into the gap coming down the stretch, but Marvin Hagler wrapped up the win with a length-and-a-quarter in hand and 1:57.1 on the clock. Johnny Buckshot was second, four lengths ahead of Jayport Hi Class (Greg Dustin).

MARVIN HAGLER REPLAY

Marvin Hagler’s win came with a drop in class after three straight seventh-place finishes. The gelding, trained by Mark Macquarrie, is now two-for-six on the season, having won a Preferred on Jan. 2. The five-year-old has earned $137,345 and won 18 times in his 63-race career. Macquarrie co-owns him with Mary Pedden.

Lorne House tripled on the day to achieve the evening’s best tally.

The Raceway at the Western Fair District is set to continue action on Friday, Feb. 16 at 5:50 p.m. EST.
