Lochinvar Leader, One Aussie take Globe Derby classics

Lochinvar Leader, One Aussie take Globe Derby classics

By Harness Analyst ·

Globe Derby staged a strong harness racing meeting on Saturday evening with their twin features of the $20,000 SAHRC Derby and the $11,000 Hygain Sapling Stakes the highlights.

The Derby was a thrilling affair with Lochinvar Leader (Stay Hungry) showing plenty of fight in outstaying the hot favourite Hez So Royal and B T Captivate.

Michael Smith had no trouble taking Hez So Royal to the lead with B T Captivate taking the trail behind the leader.

LOCHINVAR LEADER 12 SEP REPLAY

Danielle Hill had Lochinvar Leader back at the rear but not long as she worked him around the field to face the breeze. Hez So Royal had an easy run in the lead and when Smith let him run his third quarter in 27.9 seconds he skipped clear and looked to have Lochinvar Leader’s measure.

Meanwhile B T Captivate was looking for an inside run as they straightened. Lochinvar Leader seemed to find another leg as he raised another effort and in a desperate finish he edged out Hez So Royal by a short half head with B T Captivate two metres away third.

Both Lochinvar Leader and Hez So Royal are likely to clash again in the South Australian Pacers Derby on Saturday 24 October with the Heats run the week before.

The Hygain Sapling Stakes saw a surprise win by first starter One Aussie (Tiger Tara) who was kept safe in the betting.

Former New South Wales pacer Kojax was having his first start for the Ryan Hryhorec stable who also had South Aussie Star engaged.

ONE AUSSIE 12 SEP REPLAY

Cecil Star who was going for three on end went to the front with Kojax taken up to face the breeze. One Aussie broke in the score up but driver Corey Johnson was able to settle the gelding with a one out and two back trail. Kojax drew level with Cecil Star on the final bend but South Aussie Star came with a well timed burst to claim the leaders.

Just when it seemed that South Aussie Star would take the honours, One Aussie finished with a withering burst to snatch victory on the line with Kojax hanging on for third.

One Aussie rated 1.58.7 and looks to have a bright future. Trained by Shaun Adams, One Aussie is raced by his breeder Mario Musolino.

The dam of One Aussie, the Art Major mare Bubbas Princess won three races and has left the winners Major Jolt and Laylas Princess also raced by Musolino.
