Kyvalley Dixon storms home to upset Bumper Crop in VicBred Trotters Final

By Harnesslink ·

Kyvalley Dixon (Majestic Son) who chased home Bumper Crop in her harness racing heat over a week ago went one better when she finished too strongly to defeat the latter in the APG VicBred super series two year old trotters fillies final at Melton on Saturday evening.

The winner of three of her previous seven appearances Kyvalley Dixon was drawn on the outside of the second row due to being put outside the draw due to her manners.

Bumper Crop didn’t muster a great deal of early speed and she settled back in the field as Aldebaran Emjay went fast early to take up the running ahead of Zippin Past and Miss Muscle who was outside the leader. Glen Craven on Bumper Crop drove a patient race one out and one back while Kyvalley Dixon was right behind her.

Miss Muscle started to put the pressure on Aldebaran Emjay on leaving the back straight but Bumper Crop eased out three wide to gather in the leaders with what looked to be a winning move.

But Chris Alford on Kyvalley Dixon who was following had other ideas and she let down with a powerful sprint to put the race beyond doubt. In the end she scored by just under six metres from Bumper Crop with Zippin Past a fair distance away in third.

Alford stated that the filly had quite a few issues in her career

Probably we were lucky to be here tonight after she messed up and luckily there was a false start last week and she got away. But of course, that put her in number 13, which was always going to make it hard. But it suited her. They ran really strong early and she got the right toe into it and was too strong on the line.

I thought they’d all start to come back because of the early tempo and Glen (Craven on Bumper Crop) was half-niggling his one when he pulled it out in front of me down the back and then he dropped back in for cover. So I thought he couldn’t be going that well, and this one was– I knew she’d be strong up the straight and when I peeled off at the top of the lane she just put her head down and trucked all the way to the line.

She’s always had the ability. She’s a bit silly. She went really well her at first start at Wagga and then made a mess of the final, just like she made a mess of the score up last week. So  once she gets a bit more speed and learns how to race properly she’ll make top grade, I think.

No, she’s really good. She just seems to get a bee in her bonnet when she’s drawn down low in the field, but she’ll come out of that eventually I’d say.
