Lifetime marks in Grassroots leg four

By Nicholas Oakes ·

Both winners in leg four of the Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots for three-year-old harness racing trotting colts and geldings posted new career marks on Tuesday (Aug. 20) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

Sid The Kid winning the first of two Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots divisions

Sid The Kid (Alarm Detector, Scott Young) scored in the first split, crushing in a pocket-popping effort. The sophomore came after leader Jack N Abs (Doug McNair) rounding the far turn, fired past him, and kicked clear by four lengths to complete the victory in 1:55.1. Market Banker (Chris Christoforou) passed Jack N Abs late for place.

SID THE KID REPLAY

Sid The Kid upped his career win total to three and bankroll to $35,265 in start number 18. Benoit Baillargeon trains the homebred gelding for Tom and Elizabeth Rankin of St. Catherines.

Grambling Hall (Muscle Mass) his Ontario Sires Stakes debut in a race-long battle. Louis-Philippe Roy floored it with the colt out of post eight to take over at the quarter and re-took from Slayin Theday Away (MacDonald) shortly after. R No Mercy (McNair) then came with a first-over assault, pressuring the leader into the stretch. Grambling Hall shrugged him off and turned on the afterburners, soaring clear to win the second division by three-and-a-quarter lengths in 1:55.4.

Elegant Resolve (Todd Ratchford) closed for second over The Canam Banker (Tyler Borth).

GRAMBLING HALL REPLAY

Grambling Hall, trained by Chantal Mitchell, is now two-for-four lifetime with $25,160 in earnings. He made his career debut in July with a win and hit the board in two subsequent outings. Mitchell co-owns the colt with Alan Leavitt of Lexington.

Roy won four races on the day, including a natural hat trick in the fourth through sixth.

The next card at Woodbine Mohawk Park is set for Thursday, Aug. 22 with a 7:10 p.m. first post.
