Australia’s favourite pacer Leap To Fame (Bettors Delight) scored yet another of his greatest harness racing wins when took out his second $1 Million Group 1 Garrards Miracle Mile at Menangle on Saturday evening.

In a star studded field, Leap To Fame was pitted against his main nemesis Swayzee who ominously drew the pole. And from the beginning it was obvious that Leap To Fame would have to do a power of work.

Swayzee showed enough speed to hold the early lead. Luke McCarthy let Don Hugo go up on the outside while Leap To Fame was sitting three wide. Eventually driver Grant Dixon allowed Leap To Fame to race outside the leader. Don Hugo had a good trail while the brilliant mare Captains Mistress was snookered three back on the rails.

The Janitor as expected dropped back while Bulletproof Boy unfortunately galloped out and settled back at the rear.

Swayzee looked to be travelling comfortably especially after running his second quarter in 28.1 seconds and gained almost three metres as the field negotiated the final bend. Leap To Fame continued to grind away and Don Hugo looked threatening out wide. Just as Leap To Fame beat off Swayzee and seemed to be holding off Don Hugo, The Janitor issued a blistering run down the outside and looked likely to snatch victory.

But showing his customary courage and grit and with the huge crowd giving every support Leap To Fame dug in and found more in reserve to hold on and defeat The Janitor by half a neck with Don Hugo three metres away in third.

LEAP TO FAME 14 MAR REPLAY

The overall time was 1.49 and Leap To Fame now has the amazing record of 85 starts for 66 wins and 17 placings. He’s boosted his stake earnings to $5,883,000 as he now inches towards the $6 million mark.

Now likely to be in his final season of racing Leap To Fame is Cambridge bound for the slot race on April 10 and he will be looking to defend his Inter Dominion title at his home track Albion Park which may well be his swansong. At Cambridge he will also meet The Janitor.

The Janitor was on the verge of making Miracle Mile history with a barnstorming finish but he had to be satisfied with second placing but he will now surely make his mark in the forthcoming feature races.

If there was a hard luck story it was Captains Mistress who couldn’t get a clear run at any stage and had to be content in running fifth.
