Top trainer Luke McCarthy has announced that Kingman is set to cross the Tasman for one of Australasia’s richest harness races, following his strong recovery after his Miracle Mile campaign.

“He has thrived since the Miracle Mile.

I’ll have him back to his best for The Race by betcha race next month,” McCarthy said.

Kingman’s recent Melbourne campaign proved tough and taxing. A series of unfortunate events and tough racing significantly impacted his performance in his two Menangle runs during the TAB Carnival of Miracles.

Original plans were to give him a longer stint away from the race track, with a tilt at the Queensland Winter Carnival looming as his next major target, but plans have now shifted.

“His bloods are great, he’s smashing his feed again, and I’m really looking forward to racing him in New Zealand,” McCarthy added.

McCarthy also revealed how quickly the NZ plan came together,

“I phoned owner Mick Harvey last night saying we should go to NZ, and Mick’s arranged the flights today.”

With renewed energy and a targeted build up, Kingman looms as a major contender in the $1 million feature at Cambridge.
