Kahula and Smack Bang Bart prevail in Nutrien two year old finals

Kahula and Smack Bang Bart prevail in Nutrien two year old finals

By Harnesslink ·

Promising filly Kahula (Bettors Delight) turned the tables on the in form She’s A Delaney when she gave nothing else a chance in her convincing harness racing win in the $200,000 Woodlands Stud Nutrien Equine Sales Two Year old fillies final at Wagga on Saturday evening.

Cleverly drawn by Mark Pitt, the filly threaded her way through the field from her second row draw to at one stage obtaining a dream one out and one back trail.

By contrast She’s  A Delaney was caught wide from her front row draw having to sit three wide early on before racing up to tackle the early. However Decoupage made her work hard and by the time she had worked her way to the front Kahula looked up ominously along the back straight to challenge on the final bend.

KAHULA 30 MAY REPLAY

After a short tussle Kahula bounded clear and making her win even more impressive she drew clear to win by  just under 15 metres from Decoupage with a She’s A Delaney having done a power or work in third placing. Kahula is out of the star mare Kualoa who won both the Vicbred Final as a two year old and three year old as well as being runner up in the Victorian Oaks Final.

Kualoa’s first progeny Kualight has won three races. Kualoa has a yearling colt by Captain Crunch and a weanling filly by Downbytheseaside.

Trained by Emma Stewart Kahula is likely to feature prominently in the two year old fillies classics as the season progresses.

The Alabar Farms colts and geldings division was won by favourite Smack Bang Bart (Rock N Roll Heaven) who followed up his debut win in the Heat with an effortless win in the $200,000 Final.

Smack Bang Bart caused a boilover in his heat win but with a perfect draw he was taken straight to the lead by Jason Lee who took over driving duties in the Final.

Well rated in front Smack Bang Bart had no challenges with Electricute outside the leader and Intemperance having a one out one back trail.

SMACK BANG BART 30 MAY REPLAY

Running his first two quarters in a leisurely 29 and 29.4 seconds Lee allowed Smack Bang Bart to run a fast 27.2 seconds and that was more than what the opposition could take as they chased. However second favourite Brooklyn Jem was three and four wide trying to make up ground but with the times as they were his task was made more difficult.

Smack Bang Bart coasted to the line five metres ahead of Brooklyn Jem who was still rattling home at the finish and he was ten metres ahead of Intemperance.

Smack Bang Bart who is clearly a very smart colt is a full brother to the former prolific winning Expensive Ego and he looks to have a strong future. Brooklyn Jem will be better for that run and he should also feature in the youngsters classics as they proceed through the season.
