Jacwill Kid gives Geoff Webster Group 1 success in Bathurst Gold Crown

Prominent Sire Huntsville scooped the pool with both Group 1 Two year olds at Bathurst when promising gelding Jacwill Kid led all the way to outstay his harness racing rivals in the Group 1 $150,000 Hynash Group Gold Crown Final at Bathurst on Saturday evening.

In an even betting race Jacwill Kid showed enough speed from the pole to hold out the unbeaten favourite Take The Miki who was forced to race outside the leader. My Ultimate Jed also unbeaten was caught three wide early and driver Cameron Hart had to ease back to the rear.

The well supported Gocciadoro was able to follow up from the inside of the second row to trail Jacwill Kid. Electrocute had the one out and one back trail.

Will Rixon on Jacwill Kid was able to get a breather with the first two quarters in 29.7 and 30.5 seconds respectively so it was clear that he would have something left. Take The Miki continued to fight on and Gocciadoro started to look a danger.

But Jacwill Kid had plenty in reserve and he was able to win by just under five metres from a gallant Gocciadoro with Take The Miki still hanging in there for third.

The win gave veteran trainer Geoff Webster his thirteenth Group 1 success which has seen him reach 1750 wins.

But it also was a welcome tonic to driver Will Rixon who had the disappointment of losing last year’s New South Wales Bred final when Ark Sea was disqualified. And punters have Rixon to thank for such a cool and calculating front running drive.

JACWILL KID 28 MAR REPLAY

Jacwill Kid is out of the Bettors Delight mare Ruby Delight a winner of four races and dam of the three year old winner I Sea Red. At one stage Webster trained Ruby Delight for part of her career.  Jacwill Kid is raced by his breeder Helen Plumb.

Outside of the place getters the run of the race was that of My Ultimate Jed who had to go back to rear after being three wide for the early part of the race. He was rattling home as he threaded his way through the field to wind up in fourth.
