Harness racing returns to Kaikoura today with 8 races on the card. Racing starts at 1:08pm, and we highlight some specials and value runners we think can give you a run for your money on a good day of racing.

Race 1

Tempo Warrior (7)

Disappointing at Timaru last start after showing better form earlier. Has enough ability to bounce back in this company and looks a winning chance.

Brookies Player (6)

Too strong when winning at Oamaru last start. Racing well enough to go close again despite the slightly awkward draw. Needed.

Foveaux Gambler (1)

Never threatened at Ashburton after a useful Addington effort. The ace draw should help and can run into the placings at longer odds.

Race 2

Delightful Dreams (6)

Made ground late when fourth last start. Has been meeting similar opposition and looks capable of improving with a better run in transit.

Longview Tui (1)

Disappointed at Ashburton after a string of good performances. Gets the inside draw with Blair Orange aboard and looks hard to beat.

Courage Reactor (2)

Struggled over a longer distance at Addington last start. Better suited to this trip and the draw gives her a chance of featuring.

Race 3

John Spartan (5)

Resumes after a long absence from racing and has shown ability in limited appearances. Recent workout was fair and could surprise if ready.

Second Thoughts (6)

Had little luck at Orari after some useful efforts on grass. Has the ability to go close in this field and looks a major threat.

Deltoro (1)

Produced a big effort to finish third at his latest start. Still learning but gets the inside draw and looks capable of breaking through.

Race 4

Amistozo (5)

Only narrowly beaten last start and has been racing consistently. Similar draw today and looks very hard to beat against this opposition.

Zhutee (8)

Disappointed last start after winning well at the previous appearance. Starts from the unruly but has the speed to feature with manners.

Bodacious (1)

Improved to finish third at Addington last start after resuming with a seventh. The ace draw helps and should be competitive again.

Race 5

Ghostbuster (4)

Has finished second and third in her first two starts and looks ready to break through. Well placed in this field and should prove hard to beat. 

Always Take King (8)

Has been beaten favourite in both starts this campaign but has shown enough to warrant another chance. Wide draw but a definite threat.

Let It Rip (1)

Produced a useful fourth last start and has been racing honestly. Gets the inside draw and should be close enough to feature. Include.

Race 6

Regal Summit (3)

Followed her Methven victory with another placing at Oamaru. Racing in good form and should be involved in the finish again. Top selection.

Razor Ray (6)

Disappointed at Ashburton after winning at Addington the start before. Better than that last effort and looks capable of bouncing back.

Southerly (4)

Won comfortably at his second start and looks a promising trotter. Steps up against winners but has the ability to go close again.

Race 7

Queen Lizzy (5)

Has finished second in her last two starts and continues to race well. Looks nicely placed in this field and should take plenty of beating.

Happy Harriet (4)

Returned from a spell with a strong win at Timaru. Has placed at Kaikoura previously and looks capable of winning again. Needed.

Bella Ciao (1)

Had little luck at Oamaru last start after showing better form earlier. Gets the ace draw and could be a place chance at odds.

Race 8

Teddy The Terror (2)

Has been racing consistently without winning and produced a good fourth last start. Drawn well and looks ready to break through. Top selection.

Style Council (3)

Has been close up in recent starts and could use his early speed to advantage. Good draw and should be right in the finish.

Berrettini (5)

Recent form has been disappointing but has won at this meeting previously. Capable of improving sharply back on the track. Value chance.
