Get Wings lands preferred upset

CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Get Wings (Bettors Wish) soared late to take down a loaded Preferred 1 harness racing field Saturday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The $7,000 Preferred 1 in race 12 saw Get Wings ($13.70) and driver Marc Campbell strike with a first-over grind for trainer Vaughan Doyle, getting up by a neck in 1:52.4 over Bee Two Bee (Driven by Jason Hughes) and the front stepping Blood Money (Gilles Barrieau). The four-year-old son of Bettors Wish is owned by Gary Ford of Stratford and Janet Kinney of Wheatley River. Blood Money cut the mile through fractions of 27.2, 56.1 and 1:24.3, but Get Wings came calling first-over and nailed down the victory in his first P.E.I. start since shipping in from Woodbine Mohawk Park in Ontario.

Geishas Treasure ($2.50) was a dominant winner in race 2, wiring the field in 1:55.1 for Campbell, owner Blaize Rogerson of Tracadie Cross and trainer Brendan Mullen.

Barrieau made four trips to the winner’s circle on the evening to continue his dominance of the driving standings at 32 wins.

Captainofrocknroll ($35.70) delivered the biggest upset of the evening in race 10, rallying for Barrieau to win in 1:55 for trainer Jennifer Doyle and co-owner Max Webster Stable of Inverness, N.S.

Woodmere Mahomes ($5.20) went all the way in race 9 for trainer-driver Barrieau, stopping the clock in 1:56.4. The three-year-old Tobago Cays gelding is owned by Daniel Ross of Vernon Bridge.

Rosiesmightymoe ($12.40) pulled off a mild upset in race 3 for Barrieau and trainer Melvin Gamester, winning in 1:55.3 for co-owner Heather Gamester of North Wiltshire.
