Gandhi Mail prevails in Menangle Trotters Cup as Anton Golino hits 500 winners
Former Italian trotter Gandhi Mail (Nad Al Sheba) is starting to pay for his connections following his strong harness racing win in the time honoured Menangle Trotters Cup at Sydney headquarters on Saturday evening.
In doing so, he gave his trainer Anton Golino regarded as one of the finest trainers of trotters in the land his 500th career win.

Equal back marker off 20 metres Gandhi Mail was well supported with the in form Cormoran Strike who was off 10 metres. And driver Brad Hewitt on Cormoran Strike wasted no time early as he quickly went around the field to take up the running.
GHANDI MAIL 26 SEP REPLAY
Gandhi Mail commenced safely from his back mark and settled mid field before Cameron Hart allowed him to steadily go around the field and eventually face the breeze for the last 1400 metres.
Conditions were not great as the rain had set in and there was a strong wind which would have made it difficult for those coming from behind.
Early leader Almighty Fear was right behind the leader. However in the final lap Gandhi Mail and Cormoran Strike cleared away from the rest of the field and they settled down to stage a keen tussle. But as was the case in their last clash Gandhi Mail’s class prevailed and he overhauled Cormoran Strike by a metre who to his credit kept battling away and Almighty Fear in third.
Gandhi Mail rated 1.59.1 for the 2300 metre trip which was a good effort given the inclement weather conditions.
Gandhi Mail has now won three of his five Australian starts for owner Norm Jenkin. Anton Golino will now have to decide what is next for the four year old entire. There’s not much left at Menangle apart from the Tony and Jill McGrath cup on 31 October while there are some major features coming up at Melton in October.
The win of Gandhi Mail gave leader driver Cameron Hart a treble for the evening as earlier he had scored on Jason Grimson’s pair of Dangerous and Our Sunset Delight.
