Flemsteen prevails in Open Trot

CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Flemsteen (Explosive Matter) dominated the top trotting ranks Thursday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

FLEMSTEEN REPLAY

The 13-dash harness racing program was highlighted by the $5,000 Open Trot in race 10 as Flemsteen ($3.40) delivered another impressive performance. Ken Murphy guided the Jennifer Doyle trainee to the front and the veteran son of Explosive Matter strutted splits of 28, 57 and 1:26.2 then held off a determined Buckhead Ridge (Driven by Marc Campbell) through the stretch to win in 1:54.4. Fight Song (Jason Hughes) completed the triactor. Max Webster Stable co-owns the eight-year-old with Jeffrey Skinner, Derrill Murphy and Clair Murphy as the trotter records win number 37 of his career and his sixth on the season.

Cc Rockin Rosie ($2.60) rallied from cover to capture the $4,650 featured mares pace in race 12, giving trainer Adam Merner the second half of a training double. Adam Merner was in the bike for owners Steven Macdonald of Stanhope and Tommy Collings of Mount Stewart as the four-year-old mare stopped the clock in 1:56 over Saulsbrook Pika (Corey MacPherson) and Jm Sportsfan (Steven Shepherd).

Merner’s first training victory came in race 11 as Lady Llamrei ($12.00) unleashed a strong first-over bid to score in 1:58 with Merner also in the race bike. The Marsha Knox-owned mare held off Mystical Gal (Murphy) with Psili Ammos (Kenny Arsenault) finishing third.

Marc Campbell led all drivers on the program with three victories. The veteran reinsman guided Nobel Hanover ($2.20) to a dominant 1:56.4 score for trainer Jeff Holmes then added a win with Hatchling ($2.60) for trainer Landon Campbell in 1:56.2 before completing the hat trick with Steady Heart ($2.20) for trainer Bo Ford in 1:55.4 in the race 13 finale.

Live racing continues Saturday at 5 P.M., at Red Shores Charlottetown.
