ELORA, ON (September 18, 2026)– As the 2026 harness racing season concluded at Grand River Raceway (GRR) this past Wednesday evening, Samuel Fillion secured the driving title while the trophy for top trainer was awarded to Jodie Cullen.
Fillion guided 56 winners from 303 starts to earn his second Grand River Raceway top driver recognition in a row. Austin Sorrie finished second with 45 wins, while Jason Ryan was third with 34 victories.
On the training side there were no ties this season, unlike 2025. Cullen led the pack with 23 wins, 15 seconds and 12 thirds. Second place was achieved by Luc Blaise with 13 wins, 3 seconds and 3 thirds. Following right on Lucs heels was Jamie Copley with 12 wins, 14 seconds and 9 third place finishes.
“This season GRR was fortunate to again showcase the talent of our equine athletes and the dedication of our horse people,” said Fairhall, Raceway Manager. “Their hard work, along with the support of our fans, made for a great 2026 season.”
In addition to thrilling on-track competition, Grand River Raceway was proud to host a few fan-favourite events throughout the season. Industry Day once again highlighted the best of Ontario Sires Stakes racing, while Wiener Dog Day once again drew record crowds and plenty of excitement. GRR also partnered with Harness the Hope to raise awareness and funds in the fight against breast cancer, continuing its commitment to meaningful community engagement.
“The 2026 race season was here and gone before we knew it” remarked Fairhall. “Hopefully it left everyone who stepped foot through our doors with fond memories to help carry through to next year. Thank you to all, of the pieces that make the harness racing puzzle whole”
