Farewell to Sarah Palin

Nine year old harness racing mare Sarah Palin ran her last race at the Waimate Trotting Clubs grass track meeting on Sunday.

Trained at Weedons by Margo Nyhan, the grand old trotting mare who is in foal to Bacardi Lindy was as honest as they come and bowed out as the winner of 10 races from 184 race day starts.

Often called the equine cash machine, Sarah Palin also had 50 minor placings to her credit with the majoity of those coming on grass tracks. Her stake earnings over her career totalled $121,672 with nearly two thirds coming from placings.

Driver Peter Davis said, "She epitomises the battlers

"She is no great horse but she is so honest", he said

TV one and Seven Sharp went out to Waimate and caught up with the team around Sarah Palin and watched her final race!
