Forbsie gets another win for Lord Forbes

By Harnesslink ·

Gavin Forbes is having a bottler of a weekend, capped off at Winton today when By Chance (Lord Forbes) which he bred and trains won his fourth race.

Jaccka Henry and Pacific Arc fighting for the lead ensured the first 400 metres of the race was electric and they split the field in two with By Chance driven by Alex Milne forced to sit parked well off the early pace. Jaccka Henry eventually got to the front and put the brakes on. When Fear Gogh came out to sit parked By Chance was able to lob the one one. Turning in Jaccka Henry shot away but inside the last 50 metres he began to feel the pinch of his early burn. By Chance ground him down to win by half a length with Jay Jay Denario coming from the second half of the field to nab third.

The win was the gelding’s fourth, Milne has now driven him in two of them.

“Matty (Williamson) drove him last time and said ‘he’s as thick as thick Gavin, but when the penny drops he’ll be away.’ Maybe the penny’s dropped,” Forbes said.

By Chance is out of Livy Franco, a three win Lis Mara mare which was trained by Nathan Williamson.

“He’s been a bit of a fiery horse.”

The win will move By Chance up the leaderboard for the Harness 5000 at Ashburton on Sunday 6th December. He currently sits in tenth place for the $40,000 feature for four year old geldings.

Forbes also has another son of Lord Forbes eligible for the Harness 5000. Louies Me Dad sits in third place in the three year old entires and geldings category.

By Chance’s win topped off a great weekend for Forbes who also bred Louies Girl (Lord Forbes) who was sold to America last weekend.

“She’s beat Francent at Yonkers yesterday and has now earned a million dollars.”
