Eyes Of An Angel dominates at Gore
Leeston trainer Brad Mowbray doesn’t mind a road trip and it paid dividends today when Eyes Of An Angel (Downbytheseaside) won the MLT Three Rivers Mobile Pace at the Wyndham HRC meeting at Gore.
From barrier seven, in form driver Matty Williamson took the three year old filly straight to the top and she won easily by three lengths from The Orange Roughy.
EYES OF AN ANGEL REPLAY
“The way she won at the trials last week I felt it was a field today that she could have dominated. Once she was in front she just relaxed nicely and Matty rated her to perfection,” said Mowbray.

Brad, his wife Mel and members of the Australian based Vella family own the filly.
“We inherited the Vella family when Jack Harrington left (for Australia), and they’ve been a pleasure to deal with.”

Mowbray took Eyes Of An Angel to the Central Otago circuit last summer for an ‘education trip’ and it’s starting to pay dividends.
“We’ve had her for eighteen months and she was quite a keen filly. We’ve tried our best to calm her down. Sometimes we think we’re winning and sometimes we don’t. We’ve been concentrating on her manners and she’s probably better than the record she’s got. It’s great for them to come down here. They come for two or three days and they get to know the world’s a bigger place than they think it is.”
Meanwhile driver Nigel Milne did the right thing for his father Alex and brother Grant when he drove Money In The Till (Always B Miki) which they trained to win the Diamond Creek Farm/SBSR Tuapeka Golden Girls Mobile Pace.
Milne was brought up in Edendale and shifted to Australia in 2006 after driving just one winner here.
The forty nine year old doesn’t drive a lot these days, but he’s won 324 races in Australia including a heat of the 2012 Interdominion Trotting Championship with Stylish Monarch.
Milne often comes back home to catch up with family who usually try to provide him with a few drives while he’s here. Today was the first time he’s donned his father’s colours to win.
Money In The Till is owned by his mother Karen and his brother Grant.
Justaweesip (Rock N Roll Heaven) trained by Peter Hunter made it five wins in eleven starts when she took out the Macca Lodge Mobile Pace.
For the majority of the 2200 metre trip she controlled the race and speared away to win by two lengths.
She’s owned by Hunter, his wife Jo and Jo’s brother and sister-in-law Brendon and Jaqueline McIntyre.
