Doc Awesome delivers stunning shock to upset big guns

SUMMERSIDE, PE – Doc Awesome delivered one of the greatest harness racing performances in the history of the Summerside Raceway Tuesday evening in the top event upsetting the favourites in millionaire Hellabalou and the previously undefeated on the East Coast Miki Shan N.

DOC AWESOME REPLAY

With the Governor’s Plate eliminations approaching this coming Sunday afternoon, Adam Merner engineered the winning trip in the race 13 feature with Doc Awesome ($45.90), sitting second behind pacesetter Hellabalou (Driven by Paul Langille) through fractions of 28, 56.2 and swelling up at the three-quarters of 1:24.3 before surging up in the stretch to win by a neck in 1:52.2. The six-year-old son of All Bets Off is trained and co-owned by Darla MacEachern for partners Allen Gaudet and Mike Cameron of Summerside. Hellabalou was second while Miki Shan N (Corey MacPherson) sat last and rushed home in 26.3 to finish third.

Merner had a driving grand slam on the program, also winning with Ryder Roo ($5.40) in race 2 for trainer Earl Watts, Tobins Cover Girl ($10.10) in race 9 from his own stable and Little Leroy ($2.70) in race 14 for trainer Joe Baxter.

Badgirl Bridgette ($4.10) delivered a sharp closing score in race 10 as Jason Hughes guided the Bill Lanigan trainee to a 1:53.4 victory over More Than A Woman (Langille) with Steamboat Springs (Merner) third.

Mr Harris ($11.20) opened the card with a 1:57.3 victory for Langille as the first part of a double by trainer Watts.

Dollys Sky ($8.50) captured race 4 in 1:59.1 for driver Ken Murphy as part of a triple by the Harrington driver. Murphy also won with Molly Malone ($5.00) in race 11 for trainer Fred Paynter in 1:56.4 and Brookdale J Mac ($12.70) in race 12 in 1:56 for trainer Phil Sizer.
