Captains Mistress looks ominous for Chariots Of Fire

Devastating display of harness racing speed by Captains Mistress

By Harnesslink ·

Captains Mistress (Captaintreacherous) is likely to start a hot favourite in next weeks Group 1 Chariots of Fire following another devastating display of harness racing speed with her win in the Listed Pron8ure Probiotic Paleface Adios Stakes at Menangle on Saturday evening.

Despite causing a false start, this did nothing to dispel any doubts. With the next release Captains Mistress was beaten out early by the Queenslander Fernco Nel but eventually Cameron Hart pressed forward and she found the front.

Hart attempted to give Captains Mistress a break after she run her first quarter in 26.3 seconds. The Victorian visitor Forty Love moved up to race outside the leader with Fernco Nel having a trail.

The field looked to be struggling as Captains Mistress ran quick third quarter in 27.1 seconds but the best was yet to come. Captains Mistress moved into another gear and in an astonishing display of raw speed ran her final quarter in 26 seconds to spreadeagle her rivals. Sinaloa finished well for second with My Ultimate Barney a distant third.

Captains Mistress’s overall mile rate mile of 1.48.9, is the fastest mile ever recorded at Club Menangle by a four-year-old mare.

Cameron Hart was again full of praise for Captains Mistress.

She was brilliant again tonight, she’s been really brilliant every start but super happy with her. She felt super sharp again and I think she’s only getting better.

She definitely looks the clear top pick for me (in next weeks Chariots of Fire) so hopefully with a nice draw she should be very hard to beat. She was a little bit interfered with as she was coming up to the gate. I don’t think we’ll have to be worry about that again.

Irrespective of where she draws for next weeks race her scintillating early speed should see her take up the running where it is hard to see who could trouble her.

Trainer Jason Grimson made it a double when his other mare Tokyo Rose (Captaintreacherous) gave a brilliant display of front running in winning the Sky Racing Ladyship Pace. The six year old mare driven by Seaton Grima went to the front early ahead of the three year old filly Ripples and she always had a clear break over her rivals.

In yet another fast display, Tokyo Rose recorded a mile rate of 1.49.2 accounting for Ripples and Reason To Shine.
