Bugsy Maguire takes second straight Preferred

Bugsy Maguire maintained his rule over the top harness racing class at Charlottetown Driving Park on Saturday as he scored in the Preferred Pace for the second week in a row.

Austin Sorrie made a decisive move with the gelding to take the lead going into the first turn, and he achieved front-end command with relative ease from post five. Sorrie cut out fractional times of :28.2, :59, and 1:29 and turned for home with only pocket-sitter Avatar J (Gilles Barrieau) within striking distance.

Bugsy Magire had a surplus of stamina remaining and held Avatar J at bay for a 1:56.1 victory. Avatar J was a length short in second. Soccer Hanover (Corey Macpherson) closed from last in the field of six to take show.

Bugsy Maguire is a seven-year-old son of Bettors Delight that has won 31 races and earned $259,290 in 133 starts lifetime. Wade Sorrie trains for Walter Simmons of Summerside. The horse paid $3.30 as he won the track’s second Preferred of the meet.

Red Shores will return for its first weekday card of the spring meet on Thursday, May 20. First post will be at 6:00 p.m. ADT.
