Blood Money superb again

Blood Money bounced back from last week’s loss to crush the Exhibition Park harness racing feature for the third time in four weeks on Saturday.

Owner/driver Dr. Mitchell Downey sent his stallion to the front from the two hole and hung out Thankyouallmyfans (Stephen Trites) headed into the first turn. Thankyouallmyfans maintained the pressure through the quarter mile and half in :28.3 and :57.3, respectively, but Blood Money pulled away from his three rivals as they passed five-eighths.

Blood Money hit the three-quarter mile marker in 1:27.3 and continued to storm home. Woodmere Ideal Art (Robert Laffin), who dethroned the leader last week, gave chase, but Blood Money was well clear this time and won by four and a half lengths in 1:56.3.

Woodmere Ideal Art took place, and Whiskey To Wine (Michael Downey) finished third. The winner paid $2.20.

The Saturday victory was Blood Money’s fastest of his three so far in 2021. The five-year-old son of Sweet Lou has made $433,503 and won 12 of his lifetime 37 starts. He’s trained by Ellen Stevenson.

Also on the card, Todd Trites, last year’s leading driver at Exhibition Park scored two straight to start his 2021 season. He pulled Bouttagetlucky (2:00.4) first-up in the day’s opener to win on his 2021 debut and took a second with a wire-to-wire win behind Love In Paradise (2:01) in the second.

Exhibition Park will return on Saturday, Jun. 5 at 1:00 p.m. ADT.
