Becky too good in Hambo
The Phil Williamson trained Becky’s Girl (Majestic Son) was too classy for a tidy field of three year old trotters in today’s $50,000 Group Three Neumanns Tyres Vipal Hambletonian Classic at Ashburton.
Landman made the early play and driver Matty Williamson was able to slot Becky’s Girl into the one one following stablemate Redback Bob. Turning in, Becky’s Girl had seven lengths to make up, but once powered up she stormed home to win easily by four lengths with Petite Armour running second and I’m Connected half a head back in third.
“Just knowing her speed, I thought the main danger was on my back, but it was going to have to be hell of a quick catch her. She just let down super,” Matty said.
BECKY’S GIRL REPLAY

The winning time of 2-02.5 broke Ya Rite Darl’s race and New Zealand record of 2-03.0.
The last 800 on a super-fast Ashburton circuit was cut out in 56 seconds and the 400 in 26.6.
“She’s always been very very fast. She’s just in a great zone at the moment. There were good trotters around her and she just put them away.”
This is Phil’s second win in the Hambletonian, he took it out in 2023 with Isolate.

Becky’s Girl was bred by Bev Williamson and is out of the thirteen win mare Alderbeck who’s wins include three in Australia.

The win also extends the fabulous run Phil has had with the stock of Majestic Son.
“They both play a huge part in the industry and do a terrific job with their horses so it’s great for them,” said Matty about his parents.
Becky’s Girl will now head to the $125,000 New Zealand Trotting Oaks at Addington on the 6th November where she won’t be out of place with the likes of Duchess Maria and Our Col.
