‘Beach’ influence runs deep in Vicbred heats

By Tim Bojarski ·

North American supersire Somebeachsomewhere exerted his influence in the opening round of the Vicbred Super Series last weekend with five of the nine heat winners of the three-year-old division held at Kilmore being members of his sireline.

Somebeachsomewhere himself left the fastest of the six heat winners for the three-year-old boys in The Niteshift and was the damsire of the three-year-old filly winner Bettor Beach and the two-year-old colt Some High.

Captain Crunch, a grandson of ‘Beach’, was represented by a pair of three-year-old heat winners in Soho Trump (colt) and Alot Like Jeannie (filly), while his sons Captaintreacherous and Downbytheseaside led in the three-year-old male division victors in Le Cardinal and Cardigan Dan respectively.

La Cantatrice, the winner of the fastest of the three two-year-old filly divisions staged at Melton, was sired by Poster Boy, a dual Vicbred champion son of Somebeachsomewhere.

The siring colossus Bettor’s Delight ranked as the sire of the heat winners Kahula (2YO filly) and Bettor Beach (3YO filly), the grandsire of the two-year-old colt’s winner Cardigan Sniper (by Ultimate Sniper) and the damsire of the three-year-old heat winners Le Cardinal, Soho Charmer and Soho Trump.

Rock N Roll Heaven also sired heat winners in both age groups in Heavenly Flyer (3YO filly) and Smack Bang Bart (2YO colt) and figured as the damsire of Cardigan Dan.

The deceased American Ideal was responsible for the two-year-old filly Ideal Frankie, while his son Soho Tribeca sired the three-year-old colt winner Soho Charmer.

The other Vicbred heat winners were the three-year-old colt Enjoy Life (by Always B Miki) and the two-year-old Some High (by Ride High).

Artsplace was the damsire of both The Niteshift and Cardigan Sniper as well as Kahula’s damsire Art Major.

A quintet of prominent breeders produced multiple winners across the heats. Perth breeder Robert Watson bred Soho Trump and Soho Charmer along with Soho Tribeca, the sire of the latter.

Bill and Anne Anderson’s Lauriston Bloodstock brought out The Niteshift and Ideal Frankie, Peter Gleeson bred Enjoy Life and Some High, Bruce and Vicki Edward’s Durham Park Standardbreds produced Bettor Beach and Kahula and Benstud Standardbreds (Cardigan Dan and Smack Bang Bart).
