Alchin holds the cards in APG Final

Alchin holds the cards in APG Final

Prominent Sydney harness racing trainer Jarrod Alchin holds the cards for this Saturday night’s $100,000 APG Two Year Old Fillies Final at Menangle.

Jarrod Alchin

His filly Peachesncream (Ultimate Machete) is likely to start favourite despite drawing wide on the basis of her impressive Heat win at Menangle last week after sitting behind the leader and rating 1.55.8.

Alchin commented:

She’s always had a beautiful temperament and gait. That takes her a long way but she still hasn’t got race hardness and moving forward she will progress.

Alchin obtain the filly from long standing client Frank O’Sullivan.

I’ve had horses for Frank for over twenty years, he’s one of my most loyal clients, he’s a great bloke, always backs me and has one or two in the stable.

Frank bred this filly and offered her at the sales, but she didn’t get the reserve so he took her home, had her broken in and she came to me.

Alchin plans to turn Peachesncream out after Saturday night irrespective of how she races.

We plan to have a busy backend of a year with the Breeders Challenge, Breeders Blue and Cobbity Classic. She’s fairly leggy and a racy type and she needs some filling out.

She’s drawn wide, although she has some gait speed.

I generally let Cameron Hart (driver) work out the tactics but I assume he’ll be going for the front at some stage of the race.

Alchin also has Paiges Boulder (Tintin In America) entered for the Final and she will be driven by Bailey McDonough.

Again it was a connection through Frank O’Sullivan that I obtained her. She’s raced by Stanley O’Hare. I’ve had most of the progeny of her dam Brigade Queen so I know the breed well.

She’s very quirky and plays a few tricks and she has a mind of her own. She definitely has ability that will come through as she ages. There’s not that much between her and Peachesncream but the latter is more mature and has better manners at this stage.

Interestingly the last big race that Alchin won was last year’s edition of the APG two year old fillies final with Bettors Creation.

She won at her only two starts, the Heat and Final but hasn’t raced since as she hurt her tendon. She’s ready to come back and not too far away. We’ll try to set her for the Breeders Challenge later this year.

Alchin will also have a runner in another classic the $25,500 Trotters Foundation this Saturday with his ultra consistent trotter What The Tooth (What The Hill).

Keen pundits thought he may have looked a shade unlucky with a close third in the New South Wales Trotters Derby in May.

He lacks high speed and that can go against him. Although he has a good gait he lacks that brilliance. He’s going to find it tough with the likes of Superior Stride and Gladiatrix but he’s a great trier. He overachieved in the Trotters Derby and that took the edge off him

I think he’s looking to go to the paddock after but we’ll consider the Victoria Trotters Derby later in the year, we’ll have to see how it all unfolds.

With 25 horses currently in work, Alchin is kept busy and no one would begrudge his success in these forthcoming feature events.
