A look at the penultimate Fraser Downs card

There are only two days of live harness racing left at Fraser Downs in 2023, but plenty of potential value lurks around the card. Here are some free expert tips and selections on the Dec. 14 card at Fraser Down.

Race 1

Toby The Tiger (Royal Flush) will line up along the rail after he posted a solid 1:59.4 qualifier mile last week. Even though he is four years old, this is his rookie season, and he will be making his seventh start.

The two-year-old filly, Stolen Treasure (Chucaro Acero), is the morning line favourite and has an excellent shot to win. However, she drew the sixth post position, and this is her second career start.

The most experienced pacer in the field of maidens, Karma To Get U (Domitian Hanover), will be making her 27th start. She had finished near the top before and had a pair of second-place finishes not too long ago.

Race 2

Kootenay Cocao (Beren Hanover) is a perfect six for six in her career and gets the rail. It’s tough to bet against this tough filly.

Heart Of A Dragon (Custard The Dragon) has posted some decent mile times as of late. She won her last start in 1:58.3 and looks forward to repeating.

For third, Diva Amour (Custard The Dragon) is the next best. She won her last outing as well but paced the mile in 1:59.1.

Race 3

The 9-5 favourite, The Hulk (All Bets Off), draws the rail and has already posted some of the fastest times in the field. He has yet to win but has been very close lately, with three seconds in her last four starts. It has to be his time!

Mcmoney (Mcwicked) has very similar times to the favourite. The two-year-old gelding still needs to win in his young career. He has a pair of second-place finishes in eight starts. He is a good one to add to the Pick 3 wager.

One of the few in the field to have a win already is Therealkents (Beren Hanover). His times are a tad slower than his counterparts, but his name could appear on a show ticket.

Race 4

Century Mach (Royal Flush) has been racing in the Filly and Mare Preferred but now drops into this class. She does draw the outside, but it shouldn’t be too much of an obstacle, only in a field of five;

The rail horse, Hotpieceoface (Big Jim), has mile times that match well with the rest of the field. She has won wire-to-wire several times this year, and now getting the inside early could help add another.

Another former Filly and Mare Preferred contestant, Hang On Sloopy (Betterthancheddar), draws into this race. Her mile times are very competitive with the rest.

Race 5

Although Tahuya Platinum (Panspacificflight) hasn’t been able to put a lot of wins together, the five-year-old mare has still posted solid times. Her lifetime mark is 1:57.3, but she has been recording a few times, pacing faster. If she can turn that speed on, it should be her race.

If Beach Myst (Mystician) gets buried in the traffic early, she seems to get lost in the shuffle. Hopefully, she can find early space as she draws the rail, although it will be from the second tier. She does have the fastest lifetime mark in the field.

Crown Princess (Bettors Delight) has shown she likes to go to the front early in races. However, holding onto the lead is the issue. Even though she is the morning line odd favourite, it is hard to choose her as the top choice.

Race 6

If Only Id Known (Shadow Play) has won back-to-back Filly, Mare Preferred, and three straight races at Fraser Downs. She is the morning line favourite and will likely see most of the win money. However, this could be a good race as a potential single in a Pick 5 wager.

Mystic Shadow (Shadow Play) is a potential lurking upset contender, and she opens at 4-1 odds. She won her last race in 1:56 but has recently paced miles faster than that. Having the benefit of coming for post position two could be crucial.

The following best has to be Grey Sea (Custard The Dragon), while her recent record has earned her 2-1 odds. She finds a way to finish near the top consistently, regardless of the class.

Race 7

The Manitoba-bred Versatility (State Treasure) will likely have a better price attached to her than her stable mate and will have post-relief. She can win wire-to-wire, and the scenario of her jumping to the front again is likely.

The stablemate of Versatility and morning line favourite is Jamaica Move (Vertical Horizon). The four-year-old mare has won three of her last five races. She will likely be the favourite post-time, and adding her to any Pick 5 wager would be wise.

The rail horse, Forever Furley (Domitian), will look to spoil the party for the stable mates. She will have a good chance if she matches her lifetime mark of 1:54.3. The wins have been challenging to come by lately for her, but she is another one who likes to finish near the top.

Race 8

It’s going to be hard to beat the winner of the B.C. Bred Stake Finals for three-year-old fillies, Red N Ready (Betterthancheddar). She has also won four of her last five races and seven of ten this year.

Giving Ontheroadtotexas (Sixdaysontheroad) the rail will help her chances for a minor upset. She has won two of her last three races and shown what she can do before by having the inside post.

Stonebridge Jade (Bettors Delight) is sitting at 4-1 and is a reasonable choice for third. She has seven wins this year, but the last one came in April. Since then, sledding has been challenging, but she finds a way near the front.

Pick 5 (Races 4 – 8): 1,5/2,4,8/5/3,5/1,5 = $24.00 wager.

Fraser Downs kicks off at 7:00 p.m. PDT.
