You’re So Fine Claims Howard Porter Memorial

Group One performer You’re So Fine(NZ) (Always B Miki) added to his harness racing stakes haul last Friday when claiming the Listed Howard Porter Memorial (2536m) at Gloucester Park.
From his wide gate, driver Gary Hall Jnr eased his charge back to settle at the rear the pack, where he was content to stay before asking his charge to hop on the back of an improving Alta Tribute three wide. Alta Tribute wasn’t able to find the lead and was posted three wide, giving You’re So Fine cover for the last lap.
Hall didn’t panic and waited until 300m from home before launching his charge four wide, and You’re So Fine faced a mammoth task at the top of the straight, with leader Luvbite (Betting Line) still several lengths clear. However, You’re So Fine dug deep in the concluding stages to run over the top of his rivals to score by half a neck over fellow NZB Standardbred graduate Penny Black (NZ) (Sweet Lou), with a further 1.4m back to Luvbite in third.
YOU’RE SO FINE REPLAY
It was the sixth win in the race for both Hall Jnr and his father, Gary Hall Snr, who trains You’re So Fine. The Kiwi-bred will now be set for the Group One WA Pacing Cup (2536m) in December.
“I don’t think You’re So Fine will be a major player in the Cup, but he should be able to play a sniper’s role pretty well,” Hall Jnr told Gloucester Park.
Bred by Jordash Breeding Trust, You’re So Fine is out of unraced Falcon Seelster mare Syriana, a full-sister to Black Maire, the dam of Group One winner Lauraella and Group One performer Express Stride. Syriana is also the dam of Group Three performer Meticulous.
You’re So Fine was offered through Ripple Creek’s 2020 NZB Standardbred National Yearling Sale draft in Christchurch where he was purchased by trainer Brett Gray for $14,000.
He had three starts in New Zealand for Gray, winning the Group Two Diamond Creek Farm 2YO Classic (2200m) and placing in the Group Three Kindergarten Stakes (1609m) before running fifth in his final appearance in New Zealand in the Group One 2YO Emerald (1609m).
He was subsequently sold to Australia, where he has added another 15 wins to his record, including three at stakes level, and earned nearly A$300,000 in prizemoney.
