Young reinsman gets first Group One winner

Auckland based junior driver Jacob Dunn was the star of the show at Alexandra Park tonight when he drove Daisy Bay (Downbytheseaside) to win the $100,000 Group One Gallagher Insurance Delightful Lady Stakes.

Trained by his grandfather Robert and Jacob’s mother Jenna, Jacob gave the three year old filly the perfect trip. He took Daisy Bay to an early lead before handing up to Eternal Perfection.

“We were able to hold up from the perfect draw. We know she’s got the speed and she was able to use it up the lane. It just worked out perfect,” a cool calm Dunn said after scoring his first Group One win.

DAISY BAY REPLAY

“I’m over the moon and words can’t really describe it. Just to do it in RJ’s colours, it’s surreal.”

Daisy Bay is out of Little Miss Perfect and a Bettor’s Delight mare who’s a half sister to Chase Auckland and promising Brilliant Chase and Chase Me.

“She’s got a great wee attitude and is lovely to do anything with.”

Jacob joins his father John on the Delightful Lady honours board. John has won this race twice, with Forever Me in 2022 and Cool For Cats last year.

“I’m very privileged to drive in races like these. I’ve had plenty of help to get me where I am.  A massive thanks to everyone who got me to where I am.”
